Guest Blogger: Jauntsetter’s Dorothy McGivney

Welcome to our new Guest Blogger series! As much as we love to chatter on about our respective obsession (Mollie, cookies; Meredith, brows; Lorelei, nails), a little variety is always good. From time to time we’ll hand over this space to one of our very lovely, very savvy friends. First up: Dorothy McGivney, founder of Jauntsetter.

We’ve had a girl crush on Dorothy McGivney ever since we stumbled on jauntsetter, her super hip, smart travel site. The Google alum designed the site expressly for women in New York, culling together the best getaways — near and far, spontaneous and meticulously planned — as well as tons of insider advice. We especially love the suggestions for nearby getaways — like this rambling house rental in the New Jersey countryside — and her weekly deals emails never fail to trigger escapist tendencies. (If you haven’t already signed up, do it now. Go on, we’ll wait.)

Awesome site aside, Dorothy is also exceedingly stylish and smart, and the perfect person to ask for travel advice. We talked her into being our first guest blogger. We’ll be posting travel and beauty tips from her all this week — get excited!

Must have travel products: My latest, and favorite, beauty product discovery is Clinique’s All About Eyes De-Puffing Eye Serum. It’s a new serum “rollerball” that refreshes the eye area using a mix of caffeine, antioxidants, and botanicals. Not only does it feel cooling as soon as you put it on, but supposedly it works over time to brighten the eye area. Whatever it does, it came in super duper handy on a recent trip that involved almost 24 hours of travel time and 18 hours of flying. The resulting bags under my eyes might not have disappeared after using the product, but they were substantially mitigated.

Another favorite is Oscar Blandi “Pronto” dry shampoo, which is a godsend for my hair whenever a long day of flying (especially a red-eye) is involved. Because the shampoo is literally dry and has no aerosol pump, it doesn’t have to go with liquids in the clear plastic bag at airport security. Dry shampoo is also a winner if you have thin, frizzy hair like me: just add a tiny bit and brush through hair and get easy, instant volume.
