We fell hard for Natalie Alcala last fall, when the LA-based writer and blogger spent a week guest blogging for us. In fact, we loved her posts so much that we asked her to be a contributing editor. In addition to blogging for us once a week, she’ll also be writing for the Birchbox Magazine and keeping us up to speed on all things fashion, beauty, and fun.
Ah, Anna Sui. The ever-enchanting designer never ceases to captivate me with her darling designs that transport you to another place and time. This season’s runway show was inspired by both the French Revolution and the underground punk scene, resulting in a wondrous mix of bold looks. Equally statement-worthy was the beauty, which was dreamed up by makeup artist superstar Pat McGrath and featured major eyeliner to complement bright blue hairpieces.
Although, I’d love to rock Sui’s spring 2013 runway face in real life, my day-to-day lifestyle calls for a lower maintenance look, so I was thrilled to learn that the designer created a backstage beauty bar that featured an straight forward demo on how to use the designer’s easy-to-wear cosmetics. I chatted with Emily Fang, Anna Sui Cosmetics international marketing director, about the new collection’s pretty products and how you can channel the softer version of Sui’s runway look at home.
What are the feature highlights of the Anna Sui Cosmetics autumn collection?
"The collection features 41 shades of new eye shadows in three difference textures: 1) a moist base that can create a shimmery effect, 2) a moist powder, and 3) a regular powder. Out of the 41 shades, we have more that seven shades of purple because that is Anna’s absolute favorite color. The new palette also allows you to choose your three favorite shades based on your texture preference, which can be plugged into your unique palette."
Which products did the Anna Sui makeup artist use to create this pixie-like day-to-day look?
"Our version of Sui’s dramatic runway beauty features three eye shadow shades: one cream base, then purple and grey moist powder. We also used our new rose cheek color palette, which is featured in our spring collection. The cheek color has combination of three different shades in one palette, which allows you to create different colors and dimensions. For the lip, we used Anna Sui Lip Rough in 303—a pretty pink."
