Test-Driving Miss Jessie’s Enhancing Curl Cremes: Hairistocracy

We’re guilty of sticking with the same hair cut for years — if it’s not broke, why fix it? — but that can be a little boring. But not everyone has our issue. Paulina, one of our amazing operations associates, is always eyeing new cuts and styles. She’ll be sharing her tress inspiration and tips every other week.

We’re big fans of Miss Jessie’s products for curly hair here in the Birchbox Office. But if you sift through their catalog, you may quickly notice that there are so many options. My associate Sarah and I were overwhelmed by the amount of products—to say the least—so we took it upon ourselves to do a week of trials with the brand’s best sellers. Enter the Curly Meringue, Quick Curls, and Stretch Silkening creme

It’s no surprise that we came out of this experiment picking different products: Sarah’s curls are thick with a medium-sized twist that tend to be frizz-prone, while my hair is much lighter and has more of a tight wave rather than a curl (and frizz is also on my radar).

Sarah ended the week with the Quick Curls in-hand. She said the cream gives great definition, and also has the “tight hold of mousse and gel, but without the crunch!”

While Quick Curls was my runner up, my true love is definitely the Curly Meringue. I’m a low-maintenance girl and always let my hair air-dry. The meringue left my hair feeling naked, like there was nothing in it. But magically the frizz had dissipated and my locks were more piece-y and textured, which I absolutely love!

As far as scent goes, we both agreed that the Curly Meringue and the Silkening Stretch Creme were winners. The stretch creme has a great, fresh out-of-the-shower shampoo scent that lasts all day and takes the cake!
