A First Look at Jin Soon Choi’s New Polish Line

Last week, we told you about celebrity manicurist Jin Soon Choi’s first polish line, JINsoon. Now we’ve got your first look at the entire collection! Yesterday, we got to see the polishes in person and had a chance to talk to Choi herself. Let’s just say we’re even more excited for their launch at Space NK this September. Choi, who’s been in the business for over 20 years, has actually been working on the collection on and off for five years. Read on for Choi’s inspiration behind the polishes PLUS the details on their names:

We already knew that the JINsoon line was split into two collections: Quintessential, six polishes every woman should have in her arsenal at all times, and A La Mode, six rotating, trend-based colors. When I asked Choi how she came up with the six polishes in the A La Mode collection I expected her to say they were based on the this season’s fashion shows. Nope—the colors are actually inspired “by beautiful unique colors of vintage cars.”

When I saw the polishes in person, I was struck by their intense glossiness. That’s not accidental. Choi says, “Nail art, glitter, shimmer, studs—that’s not high fashion. High fashion is very simple, sophisticated. It’s all about colors with high gloss.” To ensure an extra-glassy finish, the polish formula includes polymers and resins similar to the formula of gel polishes. Bonus: this also ensures a long-lasting, chip-free finish.

When it came time to pick a polishes, Choi gave me an additional reason to be indecisive. She revealed that each of the six shades in the A La Mode collection were named by models. I settled on emerald green Metaphor, named by Guinevere Va Seenus, for my manicure and dark purple Debonair, named by Karlie Kloss, for my pedicure. The other four polishes in the collection are: Austere, a dark olive named by Caroline Trentini; Charade, teal named by Hyoni Kang; Rhapsody, a dark gray blue named by Coco Rocha; and Auspicious, a dark gray lavender named by Jamie Bochert. Any of them will give you perfectly fall-ready nails.
