My favorite hair trend right is the braid. I love that it exudes effortless style and it’s easy to do yourself (depending on what type you try). Even though the look has been around for forever, it’s evolved significantly and red carpets have helped take the style to new heights.
My personal favorite braid look is one that Blake Lively wore to The Emmy’s back in 2009. What’s awesome about this ‘do is that it’s a cinch to replicate, just follow these steps:
1. Put your hair back in a tight and high ponytail.
2. Try to get rid of all the fly aways and baby hairs, you can distribute serum through your strands before pulling it up or use hairspray and a comb once your pony is in place. Avoid using bobby pins, this look is sleek and minimal.
3. Braid your ponytail with whatever braid type you desire—a standard braid is great, but extra credit for a fishtail!
4. Depending on your outfit, make the braid as tight or loose as you want. Since the top of your hair is so slicked back, I prefer a somewhat looser braid to add balance and drama.
The next time you’re doing your hair and can’t figure out what to do with it, throw a braid in it. You may surprise yourself with a fun, new look that you love.
