Like many East Asian women, including my mom, I was born with nearly hairless legs. As a result, shaving has never been my number one priority, and I’ve developed a set of horrific habits over the years. I use and re-use my razor until the blade gets so dull it’s completely useless. I shave my legs with the same regularity that I water my cacti (translation: almost never). And instead of shaving cream, I rely on whatever soap or body wash I have lying around. But since I’ve been wearing lots of shorts and skirts this summer, I recently vowed to shave at least once a week with real shaving cream. Last night, I tried Whish Body’s Shave Crave, and I have to say I was instantly hooked.
I’ve always associated shaving creams with lots and lots of foam, but Whish’s Shave Crave is just the opposite—it’s completely non-foaming, which sounds unsexy but is actually better for you. Turns out that many shaving creams derive their foam from sulfates, an ingredient that can dry out sensitive skin. Whish’s sulfate-free formula feels like an extra-concentrated lotion, and it’s full of actives more commonly found in fancy serums, including organic shea butter, green tea, coconut oil, and jojoba seed oil. I used the Pomegranate version, which doesn’t quite smell like real pomegranate but does have a pleasant, fruity scent that lingered after I got out of the shower. And since Shave Crave left my legs nice and soft, I didn’t have to use body lotion afterwards. Having it on hand definitely made the whole shaving process feel a lot less like a chore—and yes, I’m fully aware that I should count my lucky stars that I don’t have to bust out the razor more frequently.
