My appreciation of street style is no surprise, and I am constantly going to The Sartorialist to get inspired by different fashion and beauty looks. Through Scott Schuman’s lens, it’s easy to see that it’s not just about the outfit. The shade of lipstick, arch of the eyebrows, or pearlescent tone of the skin can transform and elevate any look. I recently ran across one of my favorites from the archives: this colorful shot of Niama. Her stylish outfit conveys the look of an urban tourist in a tropical, concrete jungle. But it’s Niama’s radiant fuchsia lips that steal the show by adding a touch of brightness and playfulness to complete her look.
I’ve been integrating bright lipstick into my life by pairing it with a simple outfit, which also accentuates the pop of color. However, as Niama proves, a bold outfit paired with bold lips can also be fresh, unfussy, and fun. Whichever sartorial look you choose, it’s the perfect time to experiment with look-at-me shades. Some of my current faves:
- Nars Schiap lipstick: A cult favorite, the Schiap lipstick was named after the bold and electrifying Elsa Schiaperelli.
- Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Birchbox Pink: A staple in the Birchbox office, this lip gloss is a sheer fuchsia that complements all skin shades.
- Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencil in Crime: With its crayon shape, this hot pink pencil can be easily applied and layered to the intensity of shade you desire.
