I’m lucky enough to have low-maintenance hair that dries straight without any effort on my part. Great, I know. But, that also means my hair is slippery and texture-free, which means I need to take extra steps to achieve a fun bun/poofy pony/messy braid. This morning, Meredith helped me turn my ho-hum hair into a fun ballerina-style bun (above). Here’s how we did it:
1. Use lots of Oscar Blandi Texture and Volume Spray. I started at my roots and continued out to the mid-lengths. Spray, spray, spray. Luckily this stuff smells great and doesn’t feel sticky, so going crazy with it didn’t feel totally overwhelming.
2. Scrape hair into high ponytail and secure with a clear elastic. There were a few bump issues, but I decided not to worry about them since I was going for a messy bun.
3. Tease! I used a Spornette Little Wonder to back comb my hair into a crazy cloud of strands.
4. Ask for help. Since Meredith is a good five inches taller than me, she’s uniquely qualified to twist my hair and wrap it into a symmetrical bun. With the help of bobby pins to hold everything in place, she created a cute poofy bun.
Next time, I’ll do it completely on my own!
