Birchbox staffers Jamie and Lorelei enjoying the chic Caudalie Spa at the Plaza Hotel.
Last night, we teamed up with one of our favorite brands, Caudalie, to throw an awesome event for our New York subscribers. Tri-borough area Birchboxers had the chance to score eye treatments, head and arm massages, and oxygen infusion facials—plus, an opportunity to meet the company’s founders, Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas—at Caudalie’s Vinotherapie Spa in the Plaza Hotel.
We were excited to see so many gorgeous members in attendance (ladies, you make up one stylish crowd)! But the extra-exciting moment for us editors was sitting down with Mathilde and Bertrand to find out their favorite summer beauty trends, and the product that they just can’t stop talking about. Click through to see pics from the event and find out about Caudalie’s hottest new product!

What are some of your summer beauty essentials?
Bertrand: Summer is a great because you’re enjoying the sun, but when your tan fades away, you have more brown spots. I like using my Vinoperfect Radiance Serum [to prevent dark spots], but two years ago I got lazy and just stopped using it. In September I saw a big difference with more brown spots on my cheek bones.
Mathilde: I like tangerine nail polish for summer, and we’re very interested in BB creams and have been for about a year and a half now. It’s a great product because women are in a rush but they want something that’s moisturizing, anti-aging, has antioxidants and is anti-inflammatory.
Birchboxers patiently wait in line for head and arm massages.
What product are you most excited about right now?
Mathilde: Our Divine Oil, its brand-new but it’s already such a big success. It’s a multi-purpose oil—a mixture of grape seed, argan, hibiscus and sesame oil, plus liquid shea butter and grape polyphenol antioxidants—that can replace any other moisturizer. What’s great is that it can be used to enhance the body, moisturize your hair or used as an add-on in your bath.
[Editor’s note: Divine Oil is also part of a big charitable effort on Caudalie’s part. For every bottle of the oil that’s purchased, the company will plant one tree in the Amazon. In 2012, they’ve committed to planting 150,000 trees.]

Oils can sometimes be intimidating to use. Do you have any application tips?
You should put it on right after the bath or shower and onto dry skin. It should supplement your moisturizer. The key is that a little goes a long way, and oil will moisturize your skin while also enhancing it. Put it in the ends of your hair when it’s still wet and let hair air dry. If your makeup is a bit dry, you can use the oil as a highlighter to get a dewy, glowy look.
