It’s that time of year again: moving season! Everyone that we know seems to be packing up house and moseying over to swanky, if slightly bare, new digs. Which is why we asked home and design blogger Monique Valeris of Decor Musings to give us her best tips for sprucing up our homes. Here are her tricks for adding some personality and pop to your space.

You know what it feels like to walk into a home that’s well decorated. Regardless of the design style the homeowner may have chosen to follow, one thing’s for sure—the space is filled with elements of his or her personality. To ensure that every inch of your home is infused with pieces of you, follow these tips:
Whenever I travel abroad, I always keep my eye out for interesting fabric that I can use for bedding, placemats or even throw pillows. One of my favorite finds was this gorgeous purple fabric with gold threading that I snagged in India a few years ago, which I used for a throw pillow. To this day, it’s propped up on my brown living room sofa, and I’ve received tons of compliments on it. There’s nothing more special than weaving a unique fabric into your décor that speaks to your interest in different cultures. And the best part is that fabric barely takes up any room in your suitcase, so that’s one less thing to worry about when it’s time to pack.
Accessories for a Table, Bookshelf and Beyond
I’m forever on the hunt for fun items that I can add to my coffee table or bookshelves. I even like to mix and match things that don’t necessarily share a theme, other than that they’re appealing to the eye. Whether you’re into collecting pottery or love the look of vintage picture frames, go with items that personally resonate with you. Many times I buy items even if I don’t know where they’ll be placed in my home. I just know that I have to have them, but they always find a spot in my space somehow.
Picture Frames with Personality
Who doesn’t love to see a good picture? Show off your best shots in frames that have a little bit of spice to them, like the vintage style frames in the picture above. Photos are great conversation starters and they are lovely reminders of some of your favorite moments. Create a gallery wall of art, or place framed photos on your accent table or nightstand.
