Based in Washington D.C., Ayren Jackson-Cannady is so savvy that we wished she lived closer to NYC so that we could swap products with her. This beauty writer knows what’s up (she’s written for Fitness, Glamour, and Gloss Daily) and we’re excited to have her sharing her know-how and multi-culti beauty expertise as a contributing editor.
Ayren’s little sister.
I have a dozen or so beauty icons: Dita Von Teese and her sultry burlesque look, Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra, Beyonce in anything—and that’s just to name a few. But, when it comes to retro beauty, my biggest inspiration is my younger sister.
I really do believe that she was born in the wrong era. For one, she has the lushest afro and she loves to rock cropped wide-leg pants and jean vests. But she also has a huge ’70s-inspired beauty stash, and here’s a look at some of her faves: Old Navy Tip Toe Nail Polish in Gold Dust, Softee Coconut Oil Hair and Scalp Conditioner, Maybelline Great Lash, and Mane ‘n Tail Deep Moisturizing Conditioner!
Who knew that the scraggly little girl who used to beg me to play Barbies with her would one day be at the top of my best-in-beauty list? The take away: Sometimes the freshest, most inspiring looks aren’t found in Hollywood.
That gold polish reminds us of this one from Essie!
