Based in Washington D.C., Ayren Jackson-Cannady is so savvy that we wished she lived closer to NYC so that we could swap products with her. Am I the only one who gets all depressed on Sunday nights? After an amazing weekend full of naps on the sofa, sangria slushies, backyard barbecues, and everything in between, Sunday evening rolls around and it’s all over. But it doesn’t have to turn into a pity party.
Ever heard of the Sunday Night Beauty Ritual (SNBR)? Basically, you take the better part of Sunday evening to pamper yourself with a major at-home beauty treatment. I haven’t tried one yet, but all my beauty writer and editor buddies are on board with the practice. I have to say, their skin, hair, nails, (and sense of humor toward the work week) are seriously benefiting. Let’s get inspired together by these real life SNBRs:
“Sunday is my hair washing day. I wash and deep condition with a hair mask. Plus, I usually do any waxing and body scrubs that I don’t otherwise have time for during the week.”
—Nykia Spradley, Associate Beauty Editor at Ladies’ Home Journal
“I get my skin looking radiant for the upcoming week using Ole Henriksen’s Mini/Micro Peel. It’s amazing how sluggish my skin looks after a week of makeup, long nights, and a 90-minute tennis session every Saturday morning.”
—Melissa Goldstein, beauty writer, Been There, Done That
“I always do a pedicure. When my toes are done, I feel ready to take on the world. And then, I need a good 10 minutes in the magnifiying mirror to perfect my brows and search for any other unwanted hairs.”
—Laura Nadeau, makeup artist/beauty writer, loandco.com
“Once the kids are in bed and after my shower, I braid my hair back and slap on my Mario Badescu Enzyme Revitalizing Mask. It’s super-moisturizing and exfoliates with alpha hydroxy acid so my skin feels extra clean after—I always imagine it stripping the grime of the previous week away and leaving soft moisturized skin in it’s place. After it’s set, I always try and recreate the spa experience for a nano-second by taking a very warm washcloth and letting it rest on my face. Then I gently swipe the mask off.”
—Carrie Stern Kleiner, beauty writer, beautyeditoroncall.com
“Sunday nights are relax and recover nights! I love to do an in shower hair mask and then a face mask (which I self diagnose depending on my skin’s needs) to be fresh and ready for the week.”
—Jeannine Morris, beauty blogger, beautysweetspot.com
“I have wavy, color-treated, long-ish hair that’s on the dry side, so weekly deep conditioning is key for maintaining shine and softness. Note: I tend to overdo the product a bit, but that makes it feel more like an experience, and I also know for certain that each and every hair is properly coated. A few of my fave deep conditioners are: Kerastase Masuqintense for Thick Hair, Fekkai Advanced Salon Technician Color Care Rapid Results Moisture Mask and Kiehl’s Superbly Smoothing Argan Hair Pak. After combing the product through with a wide tooth comb, I shave my legs (another Sunday ritual, though I do this other days as well), get sudsy and finish the rest of my shower before rinsing out the mask.”
