Where Facebook and High-End Beauty Intersect

In what was either the greatest marketing ploy of all time or a bizarre tribute to Mark Zuckerburg, YSL has introduced a palette of Facebook-inspired eyeshadows for devoted online fans. Not exactly what we were expecting from the luxe brand, but we’ll definitely take it!

The gold compact features classic, versatile shades: a shimmery charcoal, a chalky black, and champagney silver. The standout? A deep cerulean inspired by the social network’s trademark blue. 

While the palette does not go on sale until July 19th, it’s already gained plenty of buzz on Facebook, yes, but also Twitter and Pinterest. YSL told Kiss and Makeup that the compact was “a declaration of love” to their fans, and “[weaves] together the now highly identifiable Facebook blue with the luxurious Yves Saint Laurent design.” 

Some one million YSL Facebook fans will have access to the compact’s purchase link next week, but only 1650 units have been produced for sale, making a very hot commodity. While I’m sure it won’t meet the demand from excited consumers, I’m hopeful extra palettes will be released soon so more fans can try that gorgeous cerulean shadow.
