Ever wonder how stars manage to keep their makeup flawless on the red carpet? No one knows how to keep a look fresh in the hot weather better than celebrity makeup artists. Tina Turnbow, whose clientele includes stars like Claire Danes and Brooke Shields to name a few, chatted with me about the affordable beauty tricks she uses. It’ll help ensure you have a flawless face throughout your wedding day or your friends’ wedding day. (Hey, us serial bridesmaids have to be photographed, too!)

Face: To create a solid foundation for your look, prime and prep your skin with specially formulated sweat-proof products, like smashbox Primer or Josie Maran priming mist. Urban Decay’s All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray solidifies the completed look. Skip powdering your nose, which can lead to makeup becoming flat and cakey—try using blotting papers on the T-zone instead.

Lips: Avoid sticky lip glosses and instead try a lip stain, like tarte LipSurgence™ lip tint or Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm. For bold and chic puckers, Tina likes to use a lip stain and then place a matte lipstick on top to kick up the color. A wide lip pencil can also be used to cover the whole mouth for lasting color, such as NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil.

Eyes: Tina cautions against too much shimmer on the face since lighting and photographs can create extra shine. The only areas she recommends placing shimmer are on the eyelids and cheekbones—a soft eyeshadow color draws attention and highlights the eyes with minimal shimmer.
