When you think successful female CEO in New York City, a minimal beauty routine isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. But there’s nothing typical about Emily Sugihara, founder of chic reusable bag company, Baggu. The eco-entrepreneur is way more into surfing and rock climbing than makeup but she is really serious about her sunblock—a girl after our own hearts! Earlier this month, we sat down with the ever-busy businesswoman to talk about her active lifestyle and plans for total world domination. Here’s a link to our profile of Sugihara, but these are some of our favorite highlights:
- Emily is one-quarter Japanese and Baggu is the Japanese word for bag.
- "I just started surfing. I got a long board and my boyfriend and I are going to surf on the Rockaways this summer. It’s so big, I can’t carry it up the stairs to my apartment!"
- Baggu is quickly expanding beyond nylon. In fact, we’re stoked about the custom leather Birchbox Baggu pouches we’re now selling. Get ‘em while you can!
Also, for a limited time, spend $60 in our Shop and get two free Baggu’s with your purchase! The prints are fantastically fun and the multi-purpose totes are beyond useful for groceries, gym clothes, trips to the beach, and everything else imaginable.
