Last week, The Skin Cancer Foundation and Banana Boat released the results of a study showing a huge gender divide in terms of sun protection behavior. Almost one in every two men have not applied ANY sunscreen in the past 12 months! What’s going through the minds of some of these fellas? Is squeezing a shot glass-worth of SPF in your hand and slathering it all over really that difficult?
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, when outside in the sun, only 29 percent of men say they ‘always’ protect their skin, compared with 43 percent of women. C’mon, guys! And you know what they say about excuses: They’re like belly buttons—everyone has one. So, menfolk, for every excuse that you have for NOT wearing sunscreen, I’ve got a solution.
"It’s too greasy on my face."
After applying your SPF, grab a sheet of toilet tissue and dab it over the greasy parts. Women have been doing this for years to cut the shine and oil.
"It stings my eyes."
Look for sunscreen that says it’s specifically for sensitive skin. Or, grab one that is marketed as a moisturizer. It will probably rub in a little better and be less likely to drip into your peepers.
"I don’t want to lug around a big bottle of sunscreen."
Try Dr. Dennis Gross Powerful Sun Protection SPF 30 Towelettes. These handy-dandy wipes protect against UVA/UVB, and are the easiest thing to jam into your pockets.
Does the dude in your life (hubby, BF, dad, etc.) wear SPF regularly?
If you’re looking for a lightweight formula, perfect for sensitive skin and totally non-greasy, try Kiehl’s Super Fluid.
