Last week, I had the chance to stop by the new Gotham Beauty Lounge across from Bryant park in New York City. The cozy, brightly lit salon is a lovely spot to grab an afternoon express mani ($25), get made up for a night out ($100), or beautify skin with a specialized peel ($120).
Since I was headed to drinks with my girlfriends, I was lucky enough try out a nighttime beauty look courtesy of makeup artist Katherine. Gotham boasts their own in-house skincare and makeup lines, all of which are noncomedogenic, packed with SPF, and formulated to work with even the most sensitive skin. Before getting started, Kat prepped my skin by taking off all my existing makeup and applying an oil-free moisturizer and a primer. Then she gave me a flawless finish using a mineral liquid foundation.
Giving me a rather daring beauty look, Kat created a deep bronzed smoky eye (with some awesome inner-eye highlights), a pretty lush pink lip color, and finished off with some serious contouring along my cheeks. The whole look was perfect for the night I had planned (and would’ve been even better for a more luxe event). I have to say that I was impressed by the light formulas of the skincare and makeup—particularly because they didn’t irritate my finicky complexion.
For those ladies more interested in getting their nails did, grab an appointment with Ariel who will deck out your fingertips in Butter London polishes. Fellow Birchbox staffer Sonia nabbed a pretty teal and rose-glitter mani that I was totally jonesing for.
Something to keep in mind before you go: the space is New York City-sized! Meaning that it’s a small, intimate setting. If, like me, that type of experience can be a little overwhelming, I recommend partaking in the gratis rose wine offered with the services to relax. Or, even better, chatting with the extra-friendly staffers who can give you the lowdown on all of the newest trends.
