My packing strategy is usually pretty haphazard: the night before a trip, I’m typically cramming a season’s worth of outfits and the entire contents of my bathroom into one bag. So when my boyfriend suggested a trip to Philadelphia this weekend, I saw it as an opportunity to learn how to pack smart. That meant scaling back my travel stash to only include what I’ll really need.
The things that made the cut? Two sundresses, my sturdiest pair of flats, sunscreen, and stila’s one step bronze from my June Birchbox. You might think of bronzer as a non-essential, but this girl begs to differ. There’s no easier way to get a no-fuss, summery glow. Plus, I also like stila’s formula because it doubles as a primer and serum, which means I have two less things to fit into my suitcase. I like to use one step bronze in two ways: as an all-over skin enhancer or as a highlighter on my cheekbones, brow bones, and jawline. Unlike one-hue bronzers, it has three different pigments that work together to even out skin while giving a subtle glow. There’s a pinkish hue, a coppery bronze, and Kitten, a champagne that’s one of stila’s signature shades. When you push down on the pump, the colors swirl together into a faintly shimmery mousse-like serum.
One of my favorite parts of the formula is its skin-perfecting ability: it contains mattifying minerals to keep my oil levels in check, preventing my face from looking shiny. This weekend I’ll be appreciating a glisten-free bronze glow while I wander the streets of Philly, looking for the best cheesesteak in town.
P.S. In case you’re wondering, I’m planning to store my toiletries and beauty products in these cute portable tili bags.
