In my former life, I did a lot of spa reviews. (Tough gig, I know.) In the space of a few years, I went from being a newbie who had never had a facial to a veteran who could easily parse the differences between thalassotherapy and hot stone massage. During that time, traditional Ayurvedic spa therapies became a huge trend, both in luxe Indian retreats and much closer to home. What I love about these types of treatments and products is that they take a holistic approach to healing, focusing not just on topical ingredients but also on how your diet, exercise, and mental state affect how you look and feel.
Since then, I’ve noticed a few new beauty brands that incorporate indigenous Indian ingredients and healing practices into their products. The latest one to cross my desk is KeSARI, a gorgeous brand that combines centuries-old rituals with cutting-edge science. The foundation of many of their products is Triphala, a traditional Ayurvedic healing compound that is comprised of three indigenous herbs: amila, which brightens with vitamin C; bibitaki, an antioxidant-rich antisceptic; and haritaki, known for its tightening abilities. I’ve been using their Pore Minimizing Indian Clay Masque once a week, which has a creamier consistency than most clay masks and leaves skin feeling extremely soft thanks to hyaluronic acid and aloe. I’m also a fan of their Triphala Radiance Firming Serum, a light, hydrating formula that has retinol and peptides to soften fine lines. While these products won’t take the place of a spa retreat, they will give dull skin a much-needed boost in the meantime.
