I spent this past winter in semi-hibernation mode, bundled up in sweaters and hiding my legs in thick jeans. But when the weather finally warmed up last week, I took one look at my newly exposed arms and legs and realized they were mega-dry after a season’s worth of neglect. In search of a solution, I tested out dirt, an eco-friendly brand that is new to the Birchbox Shop. Each of their all-natural body scrubs is formulated around a single hero ingredient—like salt, sugar, and pumice—and they work to moisturize skin as they exfoliate. After testing a variety of dirt scrubs, I’ve finally settled on two favorites: the lemon leaf, a semi-coarse salt scrub embedded with tiny raspberry seeds, and the cucumber fig, which has a more refined texture and a sweet, fruity smell. Both get rid of rough patches all over your body (hello elbows and kneecaps) and contain ingredients like shea butter, avocado oil, and jojoba oil to leave your skin hydrated. Plus, these scrubs are super-fun to use. In the shower, all you have to do is scoop out a palmful and rub it into your skin with your hands. I like to use dirt’s scrub in place of my normal body wash once or twice a week. It’s especially great right before you shave since it leaves behind a thin layer of moisture that helps prevent any bumps or irritation. As I’ve discovered, you won’t even need to apply body lotion afterwards—all the more reason to take your time in the shower.
