Last week, the Birchbox editors took a behind-the-scenes visit to the new Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics store on New York’s trendy Lower East Side. The 100% vegan, cruelty-free brand, known for its hyper-pigmented lip colors, just opened their first outpost in September, and has since been offering their makeup artist know-how and line of gorgeous hues to residents of the über-trendy neighborhood. Click through for a sneak-preview of OCC’s new spring line!
The cozy space is bright and airy, equipped with a makeup counter and chairs, and lined with a homey-feeling exposed brick wall. Of course, it’s filled to the hilt with all of the brand’s lines, including their HD-ready foundations, Loose Colours, nail lacquers, and beloved Lip Tars. (You may have seen how excited we were about lip tars before.) OCC founder and makeup artist David Klasfeld created the line in 2004 in his Lower East Side kitchen with the aim of offering colors and pigments “that you don’t see everywhere.”
Klasfeld, and OCC makeup artist Emily Ansel, gave us a sneak peek of the soon-to-launch spring line (coming March 16th), inspired by poisonous and psychedelic plants. The range includes six polishes—all of which are four-free and acetone-free—in colors like Arsenic, Chimera, and Chlorophyll, as well as six new lip tars and four loose colors. (The rose-gold glitter Copperhead polish has already made its way onto two editors’ hands.) Other favorites include a deep purple Lip Tar, which is the perfect berry hue, and the bright-orange shimmery Loose Colour called Mimosa, which gave our eyes a pretty tangerine glow.
Excitingly, OCC also offers in-store appointments with their makeup artists to get primped and primed for a night-out. We highly recommend the service, having tried it during our visit.
A little birdie told us that eventually the brand hopes to offer a full line of cosmetics, including eyeliners and mascaras. Considering how much we love the rest of OCC’s products, we can’t wait to see what they come out with.
Fun fact: We love Lip Tars so much, we included them in an upcoming March video!
