We’ve been waiting for months and one of the biggest nights of the year is almost here: the Oscars! We’ll be live tweeting and critiquing this Sunday night, so don’t forget to follow us at #bbredcarpet. And in preparation for the occasion, we wanted to do a roundup of last year’s hightlights. Tell us in the comments: what have been your favorite Oscar moments? Are you looking forward to tuning in?
The Hosts: Anne Hathaway and James Franco
Anne made a splash with her eight (yes, eight!) outfit changes, including this custom Lanvin tuxedo. As always, James was charmingly aloof and pleasant to look at. But somehow together, they just didn’t click. Here’s hoping that hosting pro Billy Crystal will bring back a little magic this year.
Preggers and Perfect: Natalie Portman
The pint-size star always looks good, but she looked particularly beautiful last year sporting glamorous Hollywood waves with her baby bump front and center as she accepted the award for Best Actress. Her glow might be hard to top this year, but she’s set to start filming a new movie by Terrence Malick, Tree of Life, this summer and we’re hoping for a memorable red carpet return.
Star on the Rise: Jennifer Lawrence
What a difference a year makes! Although Jennifer was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Winter’s Bone last year, you’d be forgiven for wondering who the stunner in the red dress was. Fast forward 365 days and Hunger Games mania has ensured that she’ll be a red carpet fixture for a long time.
Lace Dos and Don’ts: Mila Kunis and Scarlet Johansson
While both ladies wore lace, Mila wowed in lilac with a perfectly coiffed retro updo while Scarlet, by comparison, fell a little flat. While we dig ScarJo’s messy bob, it felt too casual for her dress.
Match Your Hair to Your Dress: Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth showed up in a shimmering Calvin Klein number and stick straight hair to match. Aside from that strange brooch at her hip, this look was perfection.
