Dry Skin Tips from Dermalogica

If you’ve never visited a Dermalogica boutique, you’re missing out. Even if you’re not a skincare geek like me, it’s the place to go for help with any conceivable skin issue. Every location offers complimentary Face Mapping, a service where a certified Dermalogica therapist uses their patented technology to diagnosis your skin issues (dehydration, aging, sun damage) and then suggests products. Within ten minutes, you’ll be infinitely more educated about your skin and its needs.

Earlier this week, I popped down to the Dermalogica Soho shop because my skin was painfully dry—the result of too much travel, not enough sleep, and freezing winter weather. I’d been piling on the products to no avail, but I figured that the Dermalogica skin whizzes would have some tricks up their sleeve. And they did. Click through for their dry skin fixes.

1. Hydrating Mist: I love me a good face mist, but I’m always too embarrassed to break them out mid-flight. Dermalogica therapist Nikki Turner told me to get over it, since plane air just sucks the moisture out of skin. She likes to layer a serum or moisturizer on immediately after applying a hydrating toner or mist, while the skin is still wet.

2. Give Your Products a Boost: Turner is a fan of combining products to get the maximum amount of moisture. She applied Dermalogica’s Skin Hydrating Booster (their version of a supercharged serum) to my skin, then mixed a bit of their MAP-15 Regenerator, a potent blend of vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, into my moisturizer.

3. Pick the Right Mask: Instead of your usual clay-based clarifying mask or enzyme peel, go for a restorative mask that will plump up the skin. Use it after a long shower, so your pores will be open and primed.
