Operations associate, Loren, has a thing for nails- and we can’t blame her. We love reading about new finishes and fun techniques, so we thought we’d give her a weekly slot on our blog to wax poetic about all things manicure (and pedicure!) related. Check back every Thursday for Nailing It, Birchbox’s dedicated polish series.
After watching all the gorgeous bright and blush-tone gowns flow down the red carpet at the Golden Globes on Sunday, I got inspired for spring colors. Based on how awards season has started and the spring 2012 shows, I’ve picked the four shades I think will be blossoming on everyone’s nails come warmer weather. Take a look and let me know the polishes you’ll be springing for in comments!
Canary Yellow: Yellow is going to be B-I-G for spring. Designers like Derek Lam, Rodarte, BCBG (above), and Diane Furstenberg all incorporated this sunny shade in a significant way into their collections. To spread the love to your digits, try China Glaze’s Shunshine Pop from their new Electropop Collection.
Mint: Mint green is tranquil, calming, and the color that I’m most looking forward to wearing this spring. (Lady Gaga predicted this would be a hit months ago and even alludes to it in her Marry The Night video.) This cool shade was seen on plenty of runways like at Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez (above), and Ralph Lauren. For the same minty effect on your nails, check out OPI’s Thanks a WindMillion from their Holland Collection.
Blush: Classic and always romantic, blush tones were seen everywhere for spring, including Oscar de la Renta and Calvin Klein (above). Much like a nude dress, there is something understated and incredibly sexy about a neutral nail. Keep your hands simple, but flawless with Zoya Farah from their upcoming True Collection.
Tangerine: Nothing quenches my thirst for color quite like a bright orange does! This festive shade was all over the runways of Nanette Lepore, Donna Karan (above), and Marc Jacobs and is the perfect way to brighten any April shower. Take a cue from Essie and try Orange, It’s Obvious from their Navigate Her Collection.
Not interested in spring color just yet? Deborah Lippmann’s Dark Side of the Moon is our favorite polish for right now.
