The Red Lipstick Spectrum: Party Essentials

We’re less than a week away from New Year’s Eve, which means you better start stocking up on noisemakers and kitschy party hats now. Whether you’re spending the night at home with your besties or going to a glitzy bash, you’ll want to look even more gorgeous than usual. (After all, if New Year’s Eve is good for anything, it’s photo ops!) This week, we’re helping you out with five days of party essentials. Today’s topic: getting a gorgeous flush.

Whenever I am getting ready for an event or party, I am inevitably running late. Since I refuse to attend any sort of fete without styled hair (ie: blown dry) and a cute outfit (why does this part always take so long?), it is my makeup that usually pays the price. Enter my biggest time-saver: Red lipstick

Over the years, I’ve discovered that you can (and most often should) do very little else with your makeup when you’re wearing a red lip. Which means all I need to do is apply a little tinted moisturizer, concealer, mascara, and a couple swipes of crimson color and I’m all set.

When I’m headed for a night out, I usually opt for a bright fire engine red like Beauty is Life’s Kingdom shade. If you’re color-shy, I recommend a berry stain, which is still red but far less aggressive. My favorite way to get this look is with Lipstick Queen’s Medieval Tinted Treatment, which is the perfect cross between a lipstick and a tinted Chapstick. The hydrating formula goes on sheer so you can easily build up color to your desired level. Grab your clutch and head out the door!

If you’re intimidated still but want to experiment with a touch of color, try Clark’s Botanicals Ultra Rich Lip Tint in Rachel Red
