Save Your Skin, Save Your Job: You’ve Got Male

Once a week, Birchbox’s resident Yoga and men’s product expert, Eric, will gives us girls some insight into his world in You’ve Got Male. Whether he’s giving his expertise on skincare (boys need advice, too!) or highlighting his new favorite grooming trend, this guy has got taste—so we’re lucky he’s on staff and willing to share.

So, it seems that I haven’t been wasting my breath (or time spent typing away) writing this blog for the past nine months. According to the New York Times, sales of prestige skincare products for men grew 5% in 2010 and an additional 12% in 2011. Guys really are spending more on skincare despite high unemployment rates and a bad economy. Experts are saying that men are figuring out that looking younger and healthier can help them get — or keep — a job. It’s no longer a vanity issue, but more about looking professional.

Celeste Hilling, the founder of Skin Authority says: “Men today say they feel they have to look better to be competitive.”

It also seems that guys value quick efficacy with products, which is no surprise considering the patience level of most men I know. Bottom line is this: guys need to listen up and start paying attention (not to mention, shelling out some cash) when it comes to skincare. Good thing I’m here to help!
