Welcome to another installation of Everything You Wanted to Know About Birchbox But Were Afraid to Ask. Last week, Ally, one of our amazing Operations Associations, led us through the feedback process. This week, she’s back with a very relevant topic: shipping!
If you’re anything like us, this is the time of the month when you start thinking, “Where in Oscar Blandi’s green goodness is my Birchbox!!?” We’ve all experienced the pinch of anxiety as the hours pass without the appearance of our favorite delivery. (Yes, we’re all subscribers, too!)
Well, rest easy. I’m going to give you a detailed explanation of how your Birchbox gets from point A to point B, so you can spend your holidays worrying about surviving Aunt May’s Christmas Casserole instead of your pretty pink shipment. Click through for shipping 101.
When is my box shipping?
All Birchboxes are shipped out by the 10th of the month. You will receive an email tell you that your Birchbox has been shipped anytime between the 1st and the 10th. Around this time, you’ll want to make sure that you’re keeping an eye on your Inbox and your Spam folder (our emails like to get sneaky sometimes and go into hiding). Your shipment notification also includes your box’s tracking number but it can take up to 24 hours to activate. Your shipping is also available in your “Account Settings.”
How is my box being shipped?
All Birchboxes begin their journeys by setting off from our shipping center in New Jersey. We use two shipping methods to deliver beauty to your door. First, a company called Streamlite delivers the Birchbox from our shipping center to your local post office and hands it over to the care of USPS. At this point, your tracking number activates on USPS.com
. Finally, your local postman (or postwoman!) delivers your Birchbox to your door.
What’s up with the ground shipping?
According to USPS, beauty items such as fragrance and nail polish are considered hazardous and are not allowed to ship via air. Because of this factor, Birchboxes can take up to 10 business days to arrive to their final destinations. Don’t worry, the contents aren’t hazardous for your health! It’s more the case that aerosol cans shipped in bulk tend to make mail carriers panicky. We don’t like it any more than you do but protocol is protocol!
My tracking number isn’t working!
Birchbox tracking numbers update when your tracking label is scanned at a mail processing center. For Birchboxes going from the East Coast to the West Coast via mail carrier, it is normal for there to be stretches of time where your tracking number does not update. Don’t give up hope! Once your Birchbox arrives at your local post office, it generally takes about 72 hours to make it into your beautifully manicured hands.
As always, my team is here to help. If you need help deciphering your tracking information or suspect your Birchbox may have been misplaced, don’t hesitate to reach out to us! I promise we’ll do our best to respond to your inquires in a timely manner and find a solution to any make-up mayhem, Kerastase catastrophes, and hair-elixir emergencies that may arise.
